At the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards, the story “Forest to Fork: Miskolc’s Bold Step Beyond Industrial Heritage” by Visit Miskolc received 1st Place in the Thriving Communities category. Led by local stakeholders in Miskolc, Hungary, including the grassroots network Bükki Kör and the destination management organisation MIDMAR, the initiative demonstrates how community collaboration and local identity can transform a destination’s future.
At the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards, the story “From Visitor Pressure to Balance: How the Wandelstarter Approach Reinvents Destination Management” received 1st Place in the Destination Management category. Led by Brabant Partners and Van Gogh National Park in the Netherlands, the initiative demonstrates how smart visitor management and cross-sector collaboration can protect nature while improving access to outdoor recreation.
At the 11th Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards, the story “Meet with Purpose: Discover Halifax’s Sustainable Business Events Movement” earned 1st Place in the Business & Marketing Category. Led by Discover Halifax in Halifax, Canada, the initiative demonstrates how destinations can transform business events from short-term economic activity into long-term drivers of sustainability and community benefit.
ITB Berlin, organised by Messe Berlin GmbH, and the Green Destinations – Good Travel Community have formalised a strategic, non-exclusive cooperation to strengthen sustainability dialogue, responsible tourism practices and long-term destination development within the global travel industry.
The Green Destinations & Good Travel Event 2026 convened global destination leaders, tourism professionals and sustainability experts at ITB Berlin, reinforcing the sector’s shared commitment to responsible tourism and long-term destination resilience.
