Saïdia Tourist Resort Wins Second Prize at the Green Destinations Story Awards 2025

Saïdia Tourist Resort, has been awarded second prize in the Climate and Environment category at the Green Destinations Story Awards 2025, held at ITB Berlin. This recognition underscores the destination’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its leadership in integrating environmental responsibility into tourism.

“Following its selection in the Top 100 Stories Green Destinations 2024, Saïdia Resorts is honored to be a finalist in the Green Destinations Story Awards 2025. This recognition highlights our ongoing dedication to sustainability and ecological responsibility. As pioneers in Africa’s green destination movement, we are steadily advancing toward becoming the continent’s first certified green destination. Located along Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, Saïdia is a unique seaside destination offering 14 km of pristine sandy beaches and a mild climate throughout the year. This destination also serves as an ideal base for exploring the mountainous countryside, with its awe-inspiring natural landscapes. Visitors can enjoy horseback riding tours and hiking trails, providing a unique opportunity to discover the region’s diverse beauty.

The award celebrates a variety of innovative initiatives, with the sustainable mosquito control project standing out for its success. By adopting a nature-based approach, Saïdia Tourist Resort introduced 12,000 Gambusia fish into golf course lakes, created over 400 nesting sites for natural predators such as bats and birds, and planted mosquito-repellent species. These combined methods have significantly reduced mosquito populations without relying on chemical solutions, offering a powerful model for other tourist destinations worldwide. This initiative, along with effective resource management, has enhanced Saïdia Tourist Resort’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

With its ambitious vision, Saïdia Tourist Resort is paving the way for a new standard of tourism that coexists in harmony with nature. This award not only acknowledges its accomplishments but also strengthens its commitment to becoming a sustainable destination, offering visitors an unforgettable and environmentally responsible escape.

As Saïdia Resorts takes the stage at ITB Berlin, this accolade serves as a testament to its commitment to sustainability and its ongoing efforts to create a greener, more resilient tourism industry. By adhering to the criteria set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and obtaining internationally recognised certifications alongside maintaining the Blue Flag for its beaches and marina since 2013 and 2017, the resort is making concrete strides in eco-friendly management, sustainable water use, efficient energy consumption and biodiversity conservation.
