Green Destinations has partnered with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to provide comprehensive technical support over three years, guiding Aqaba, Jordan, toward achieving global recognition as a sustainable tourism destination. The roadmap begins with stakeholder engagement, sustainability assessments, and the formation of a Sustainable Tourism Committee to oversee implementation. Key activities include the Business Sector Sustainability Scan (BSSS) to evaluate local tourism businesses, the development of a Sustainable Tourism Action Plan (STAP), and tailored training programs for stakeholders. Year 1 focuses on assessments and planning, Year 2 on training and corrective actions, and Year 3 on final implementation and preparation for certification. Throughout the process, Green Destinations offers expertise in priority areas such as waste management, marine conservation, and sustainable transport, while also leveraging its global network to promote Aqaba’s progress through marketing initiatives like the Top 100 Stories competition.
It is important to note that while Green Destinations Solutions provides technical support, the certification procedure itself will be conducted independently by the Green Destinations Foundation (Stichting Green Destinations), a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body, ensuring impartiality and compliance with global standards.
