In collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Green Destinations, this project is designed to elevate sustainability across Guyana’s tourism sector through a structured, multi-phase approach. The initiative begins with a Country Baseline Assessment to evaluate Guyana’s current sustainability performance, identify gaps, and establish a pathway toward achieving country-level recognition.
At the business level, the project included workshops for the GTA and local tourism operators, equipping them with practical tools to implement sustainable practices. Following this, up to 50 businesses will undergo the Business Sector Sustainability Scan (BSSS), a remote assessment to benchmark their sustainability efforts. High-performing businesses will then advance to Level 1 recognition under the Good Travel Seal, a globally recognized standard for ethical and eco-conscious tourism.
Through these efforts, the project aims to foster measurable improvements in sustainability practices across the industry, secure recognitions that enhance market competitiveness, and position Guyana as an emerging leader in sustainable tourism—all while generating actionable insights to guide long-term policy and industry development.
